In My Element

So, the ice has been broken.
Started with unexpected
snow on the pavement.
Watch your step.
Not so easy to maneuver
on 4 inch stilettos.
The ice has been broken.
Melted by close conversation
and warm libations in
shot glasses.
The movement suddenly
too fluid to imbibe.
Water. Water everywhere.
And way too much to drink.
Now there is steam.
Condensation on the windows.
The tide is coming in.
I watch the floe within me dissolve.
Newness shouldn't feel
so much like home.
But the ice has been broken.

Oxymorons are all around us. Just the other night I unexpectedly connected with a "familiar stranger" & had a beautiful time. It's just just like you stated though; "newness shouldn't feel so much like home". But sometimes it does & that's what makes this thing We call living truly beautiful. That's that "uneasy- comfort" feeling...that brave butterflies in your stomach feeling...that Experienced Virgin type ish, ya know. =) Thank you much Ms. Neverow for your beautiful words. 1 love.
